Intel Arc A380 – Does it encode?!?

Intel A380 arc title.

Yes, the Intel Arc A380 encodes video! Wow! Easy Peasy!

Phew! That was an easy article! Pack it up boys, girls and synths! It's time to move on to the next article! :D - S

As Covid, chip shortage, cryptocurrency, and video card prices got crazy stupid in 2022. We witnessed businesses spend $450 on a Geforce 1050ti (normally $125 at the time) because they needed SOMETHING to work with Adobe products. Getting a 30xx series Nvidia card was just about $2,000 which given it was supposed to come at an initial price point of $600 the world of 3-D graphics cards was undoubtedly a stupid time! Now, these companies claim that they learned from their mistakes and will start building chip companies in different countries around the world instead of coming from a single location which sounds great and all. But that unfortunately will not be tested until we get another incident that shits out the entire world economy or shipping industry.

But then, out from the shadows of onboard laptop graphics chipsets. Intel announced the "ARC" series. An affordable graphics card that is good for gaming and applications. This article is going to focus a lot more on the video editing side of the ARC as it seems to shine better than the gaming side of things.

About FooGallery Video.

S-Config will be going back to HTML5 markup.

When we started this site we became beta testers for FooPlugins. Originally, we paid $60 for a license which then became a lifetime after the beta program was complete. This enabled us to get a free lifetime license for both "FooBox" (Which let's be honest it's just a javascript lightbox with a coat of paint) and "FooGallery". Instead of spending stupid amounts of money to present videos and artwork to you the viewer. It can all be done for next to nothing. We were happy customers of FooGallery for a long time. However, as the years went on we started to see less and less value in the product as it stands today. This especially hits home for our video blogging where we self-host every video for every blog.

In part because we threw the middle fingers at YouTube. But also in part that this website is reachable on protocols beyond the clear-net as our black-mirror page informs everyone.

The licensing policies have changed. Video encoding has changed to make the entire plugin too rigid. And finally, because of how much JavaScript is involved with that program, it's time to slowly sever ties with FooPlugins.

State of the blog 2023.

Detroit-Title

Holy crap. It's 2023.

This is the year where we should be running around in man-bikinis in the UK worshipping a God that vomits guns Zardoz style! Okay Zardoz, the penis may be evil. You MAY have a point. But we're keeping it regardless of how many H&K fully automatics you try to give us.

Okay, we know Zardoz is set in 2293 because the movie tells you and thus the meme is wrong. Guess the internet is impatient and can't wait another 270 years. The consolation prize is that anything that gets people to watch this hot mess of sci-fi is bonus points in our book!

Looking beyond that. We at S-Config wish you guys a happy new year. A look back on 2022. Perhaps what we hope to accomplish in 2023. Read on if you want to know more.

2nd try at the Fediverse.

Fediverse Title.

Twitter is a shit show. So let's try the Fediverse... Again!

It's no surprise to anyone who has read my previous articles that we had a bad taste in our mouths during our first Fediverse run. So much so that we took down our pro-mastodon post when individuals within the instance we were on decided to shout out their communist manifesto stating sites like mine should be destroyed (we're already dancing madly on a lip of a volcano, we really don't need help in downing the server.) We published, much like Facebook, Twitter, and every other major corporate site out there. We are a centralized model. Just without a spaceman with a child-like temper throwing billions of dollars at us.

We decided to give the Fediverse another spin because of the infinite popcorn machine known as Twitter. We'll discuss that one too. Why the fuck not?

Proceed if you wish to read on about our diatribes.

It’s FOSS promo time.

FOSS Title

(FOSS) - Free and Open Source Software.

It's the duty of a blogger who writes about freeing oneself into a state of web independence to eventually talk about all of the software that is used in accomplishing such a task. That you must use, contribute, promote, and ultimately let others know about said software so that the user base grows and becomes better each and every year. Because sadly. The clear-net search engines are no longer on the side of these people. It's up to bloggers, businesses, and other websites to drive the point home that a name of a free piece of software isn't some shit ad space that you sell to the lowest bidder.

200mm PC case fans!

200mm fans title.

Just when you thought we were being obscure with Ouya blog posts...

We're going to step it up a level!  This is a supplement to our sleeper PC case article and crossing off one of the items on our list about replacing the final (and largest) fan with a better quality one. And, the lengths that we went through to maintain that sleeper case aesthetic.

Read on we guess?!? I'm sure there's ONE dude that digs giant PC fans. So here you go!

I2P Service is online.

I2P Title.

Welcome to our site I2P protocol users.

In a similar vein to Tor; I2P (Invisible Internet Project) is another style of encrypted network designed to communicate between machines in a private and anonymous way. It was originally brought to our attention via the many sites within the webring folders that as many of them are running their webpage on raspberry pi's they too are also running their site with Tor and I2P protocols enabled. It was high time we got our shit together and did it too!

If you want to know more about I2P as a client you can always go to https://geti2p.net/ and go from there.

If interested in my own diatribes: Read on if you want to hear me ramble about our experiences with this.

Corsair and ASUS is bad at software.

Corsair iCUE vs. OpenRGB title.

We at S-Config.com and Corsair will never see eye to eye. And ASUS too!

We will see eye to eye on almost nothing! Corsair refuses to address any problems they've had. And has in fact doubled down on their horse shit!

When we first decided to retire our classic Microsoft Intellimouse (shout out to Logitech actually)that we used (and have beaten) LAN games as well as single-player games throughout the years. We decided to update our rig with a decent mechanical keyboard and mouse. Well, with our hatred for Razer destroying Ouya as well as repairing a lot of my friends Razer based hardware that company was an obvious no-go for me. We thought buying Corsair would be a good alternative.

TLDR version: We were wrong! Buy RedDragon instead. At least all of RedDragons keyboards and mice operate perfectly fine without shit bloatware! Depending on the model of RedDragon you can repair it! But for better or worse, we purchased Corsair, we're going to make the best of it by replacing the software with something else!

AVIF animation vs. FireFox.

AVIF vs FireFox Title.

Quick blog article about the subject of animated images.

When designing my web-ring integration in the cellar door. We noticed something when our cron.job went to work by converting old standards of jpg png and gifs into newer standards. Simply put it stopped firefox from processing animations.

The short story is, that Firefox is aware of it. Here's the bug report. 2 years since the report. Not much progress.  Read on if you want to know more.

The OTHER search engines.

The other search engines - Title.

Wait, there's more than Google?

Yes, there's Bing. Just saved you from going to a large tech site and thumbing through 5-10 pages of ad-sponsor hell while they divide up the list to 10 pages in a desperate attempt to improve clicks. You're welcome.

Seriously; We can't tell you how many times we've seen the article "Top 10 Search Engines" from countless bloggers only to find out that if you are in an English-speaking country. You pretty much have different flavors of Google dominating %80 of the market (Duckduckgo, Presearch, SearX, AskJeeves, and the list goes on where they mindlessly accept either a Google or Microsoft aggregate instead of doing the hard work themselves.) Beyond that, there is  Microsoft Bing with their %8 and finally, Yahoo is still hanging in there with their %2 of total internet searches. Where do these percentiles come from? Like other bloggers, we pulled those percentiles out of thin air!

But it sure as hell feels that way!
